Living by the self-penned motto, “Let Sugar Be Thy Medicine and Medicine Be Thy Sugar,” a playful twist on Hippocrates’ famous saying, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food,” I have been passionate about metabolism and the mind-body connection from an early age.
With an interest in psychology, Eastern philosophy, and nutrition, I came to view the beneficial role of sugar after spending years trying to manage depression, anxiety, and various health issues, particularly digestive problems. I know what it’s like to be chronically ill, bedridden, plagued by insomnia, or perpetually injured from training or competitions. And, luckily, I also know what it feels like to feel mentally and physically well-fuelled and healthy.
Before I started writing about metabolism, I spent (and continue to spend) years researching and self-experimenting. I wanted to find out firsthand what was fact and what was pure hype, misinformation, or myth.
My writing often highlights how with a better understanding of the science of metabolism, valuing personal experience, experimentation, and intuition, we can approach nutrition, psychology, and physical health in ways that will vastly improve our day to day lives.
It goes without saying, that I have an ongoing and deep gratitude for the spirit of inquiry, research, words, and advice of Dr Ray Peat, PhD.
As I once said, “Not much advice is good advice. None shall be given here. Discover what is true for you.”
